St. George's Day

Ok, we found out where all of the St. Patrick's Day fun went....into St. George's Day!! He is the patron Saint of England and Bombardier beer sponsors all of the events :) We went to a Medieval St. George's festival on Saturday and there was jousting and archery contests as well as ample opportunities for the boys to be "trained up" as viking, then medieval, then red coat soldiers, each age with different weaponry. Really, with battle re-enactments and everything. Matthew ended up as a Scotsman who dies bravely in battle. Nick was part of the French cavalry who fled after raiding the English camp. All of it involved screaming with your "war face" on and attacking big burly men, who nicely fell to the ground when attacked by the screaming hordes of children. You will notice a slight change in our wardrobe...yes, those are shorts that you see.....winter had finally cleared out....we hope!!

Durndle Rock

We went to explore the "Jurassic Coast" en route to Devon and Cornwall for spring break. These are some of the amazing beaches we trekked. We found cool caves everywhere...Nick is already inside and the rest of us are a bit more hesitant about going in!

Easter

Super quick update with more to follow, but here is where we are. Easter is a HUGE thing here. Best as I can tell the whole country stopped working yesterday and will resume again on Tuesday...allowing for travel on Easter Monday , of course. For those of you who didn't grow up on the East coast...Easter Monday is the day after Easter where you all get on the road and return from whence you came....think traffic like the Wednesday before Thanksgiving! That said, there are NO SUCH THINGS AS EASTER BASKETS. Really, there are chocolate eggs, chocolate filled things, a rare Easter Bunny and all other creatures in chocolate form, but NO BASKETS . Shockingly, I did NOT bring our Easter Baskets, figuring that they would get crushed in the move and really I could just pick one up. Ah well, my children will be hand crafting felt chickens which will get filled with various chocolate bits. OK , it was the only little kit thing I could find that was vaguely close to a basket!

We have discovered the joys of Hot Cross Buns. These are everywhere. There are whole wheat, white, special Easter versions and very special apple and cinnamon ones. Today we found a new bakery and I have no idea what is in them, but they are delicious. The last time I had eaten one I was about 10 and it was Good Friday. Funny, the food memories we have.

Bridget and Frank leave tomorrow for D.C. and brother Don will join us...I think they wave at each other at the airport. On Good Friday, the boys and I will go to the children's service with Stations of the Cross. The kids are asked to dressed as either an Apostle, or a Roman Soldier. Can you guess which my boys have chosen? I will be getting creative with Tin Foil tonight :).

I am off to help Bridget pack...the D.C. weather report is 78 and sunny the whole time! We just got caught in a thunder and lightening HAIL storm and it was 2 degrees last night(~ 36). Pictures of our latest adventures later. Happy Easter everyone !
