Easter

Super quick update with more to follow, but here is where we are. Easter is a HUGE thing here. Best as I can tell the whole country stopped working yesterday and will resume again on Tuesday...allowing for travel on Easter Monday , of course. For those of you who didn't grow up on the East coast...Easter Monday is the day after Easter where you all get on the road and return from whence you came....think traffic like the Wednesday before Thanksgiving! That said, there are NO SUCH THINGS AS EASTER BASKETS. Really, there are chocolate eggs, chocolate filled things, a rare Easter Bunny and all other creatures in chocolate form, but NO BASKETS . Shockingly, I did NOT bring our Easter Baskets, figuring that they would get crushed in the move and really I could just pick one up. Ah well, my children will be hand crafting felt chickens which will get filled with various chocolate bits. OK , it was the only little kit thing I could find that was vaguely close to a basket!

We have discovered the joys of Hot Cross Buns. These are everywhere. There are whole wheat, white, special Easter versions and very special apple and cinnamon ones. Today we found a new bakery and I have no idea what is in them, but they are delicious. The last time I had eaten one I was about 10 and it was Good Friday. Funny, the food memories we have.

Bridget and Frank leave tomorrow for D.C. and brother Don will join us...I think they wave at each other at the airport. On Good Friday, the boys and I will go to the children's service with Stations of the Cross. The kids are asked to dressed as either an Apostle, or a Roman Soldier. Can you guess which my boys have chosen? I will be getting creative with Tin Foil tonight :).

I am off to help Bridget pack...the D.C. weather report is 78 and sunny the whole time! We just got caught in a thunder and lightening HAIL storm and it was 2 degrees last night(~ 36). Pictures of our latest adventures later. Happy Easter everyone !

  1. You are having weather like us. 50mph winds with hail and rain. Crazy spring. I can totally see you crafting felt chickens. Pretty funny. I did just see a tutorial today for making construction paper baskets. I wasn't sure I could find our baskets either. But alas, I found the baskets and the plastic eggs which I thought would be fun to play with. 4 hours later and I'm ready to throw them away because they are all separated and rolling into every corner of the house. Oh well...Happy Easter!
